Showgunners is another turn-based combat game. Apparently, the law is that with these games you have to compare them with XCom, so I’ll say that at least in this one there are no surprising enemies once the combat starts.

In the game we are a contestant in a game of killing baddies for TV. The enemies are all apparently death-row inmates in what seems to be a post-apocalyptic world in which jails are overcrowded (1)Trying here really hard to not compare with current US. After a number of episodes killing almost everyone in sight who isn’t part of the cheering audience, the winner gets the opportunity to win some well-deserved money.

The story will maybe not win a Pulitzer prize, but it’s certainly better than I imagined. The gameplay is fun and engaging. I played with normal difficulty and it was okay, maybe a bit easy at times. Still, a harder difficulty, for me, would probably be frustrating and move the game to last a bit too long. As it is it lasted just the needed time.
The game has a “DLC” that came free (2)So, literally DownLoadable Content, but not standard DLC the way it’s normally understood, I’d say. and adds a few interesting combats at the end. Don’t forget to get it if it doesn’t come already.
I expected a filler game to rest my mind these days and got a good one instead. Recommended.
