Originally published as part of Legends: Stories by the Masters of Modern Fantasy, an anthology edited by Robert Silverberg. It can be found relatively easily in second-hand shops, and was also published in several volumes (the first one with this story).
The anthology included 2 pages of introduction to the world of A Song of Ice and Fire and the series.
I’ll review the full anthology when I finish it, which may be never depending on how I get on with the other series in the anthology 😉.
I’m not sure in what other formats it has been published, although it seems it has been published individually, at least digitally. There’s also a graphic novel adaptation that I intend to read soonish too.
‘Another day done,’ he would sigh, ‘and who knows what the morrow will bring us, eh, Dunk?’
This short story came out between the second and the third books of A Song of Ice and Fire. It was part of an anthology, and it took me quite a few years to find a copy, but it was well worth it. Now with the HBO series coming out, I decided to revisit the Dunk and Egg series.
This one tells how the pair met each other, and how Dunk turned into Ser Duncan. For real fans of the series, it also introduces changes that will still be felt a hundred years later.

The story is funny and, as is expected from Martin, quite well told. It’s a great place to come back to this world, but I would recommend reading at least A Game of Thrones before reading this. Not because the context is needed, but rather because that would further enhance the enjoyment of reading this one. The characters are truly lovely and this novella makes the reader want to read more of their adventures.
