The Faith of Beasts directly continues the story from The Mercy of Gods.
We begin the story following the same characters we followed along there, and we discover more about the universe and the plot develops.

I must admit I was somewhat sceptical about this one.
I did like a lot the first book, and the short story Livesuit too, but I was unsure on where the story would continue and whether even Corey could develop the story further in a satisfying way.
How could I be unfaithful?

I liked this one even more than the first one.
I’d say, much more, even.

I have seen some criticisms of this book.
While not all criticisms are the same, quite a few of them seem to me as if the critics were expecting more The Expanse somehow and got something different.
The Captive’s War seems to me a different kind of story, despite the similarities

Most noteworthy to me the focus in a small cast of central characters, while giving a wider perspective with surrounding characters…
But that’s basically a description of a big chunk of the market right now.

There’s still, though, a certain TV-ness to the story, if maybe a bit less in The Captive’s War.

and going without preconceptions or expectations does help a lot to enjoy the story.

After this book, the universe feels much bigger, more interesting, and I care more about the lives of the characters.

I can’t wait for the next one

There’s a new novella coming out in a few months!
